The Non-Fiction shelves were just an endless long wall full of books. I wanted to bring some color and life to the boring bookshelves, and it just so happened to be a perfect way to separate out the Dewey blocks. Each set of hundreds has its own color and its shelf is surrounded by that color and labelled.
You might notice there is no other labeling. At all. That is because I am having the older students do a inquiry based class activity in the next couple of weeks where they take a close look at the various Dewey groups in "explorer" groups. They then report back to the class what kinds of books were in their assigned section, what they would call that section, and a fun book they found there.
I am quite possibly going to use these made up names to name and label the actual sections, and I look forward to some creative suggestion. Anything is better than "Applied Science".
Its good for making boring clear displays pop with some color. I also colored matched the book ends.
