Well, its another brilliant idea I spotted on Pinterest! Hooray! As you can see, it works well for highlighting books that were turned into movies, along with brightening up a somewhat hidden and neglected shelf! You thought the movie was great, the book is even better! Come check one out today!
The amazing staff at the Salt Lake City School District Media Center surprised all of the Librarians in the district with the news that they had been awarded a grant! Each school library media center was granted a budget for purchasing anti-bullying books! A lesson for each grade will be presented by myself, as part of the grant requirements, along with the bonus of showing off the collection all of the students!
Teachers are more than busy and that's an understatement. I decided to take the newest acquisition, almost all of the Coretta Scott King Award books, to them. That is, this display is set up in the staff break room! To my delight, I have already seen teachers exploring these amazing award winning reads. I plan on continuing this all year long with a variety of displays, collections I think are being underutilized. My goal is to have teacher check outs exceed student check outs. Ok, that is a bit lofty, but a Librarian can sure dream!
I take my time cataloging all the books purchased with the book fair proceeds...just so I can put them all at once! Recognize this sign from last year? Its great to re-use! I love New Book November! Come check out a book to cozy up with before they are all gone!
This is a great way to fill up an unused corner. The kindergartners and 1st graders love to come over here to color some Dr. Seuss pictures and their own custom bookmarks.
All the 4-6 grade students have been learning the basics of searching the internet using a search engine. They have learned the importance of keywords. This is so important, the biggest mistake I see with searching google is tying an entire question like "how do I find out about dog training". Or searching Google Images for "pictures of dogs". We learned how to pick out the most Precise keywords and do simple searches. Next up is Website Authenticity.
Here are our Hanukkah and Thanksgiving Books. We have even more if you count our e-books. See me in the library for more information on how to access those. Notice that warty pumpkin in the background...I have been telling all the students that the pumpkin got that way because it kissed a frog! They seemed to think that a very reasonable explanation, and funny too!
