I love cozy places to read, so I set up the armchair from last year and an abandoned rug from another classroom, along with our reading horse, beanbag chair, and basket of reading buddies. The little table in the back is for coloring bookmarks and coloring pages that feature our favorite books.
this year we are going to be learning a lot about technology!
Here at Ensign we are all Superhero's of Reading, but in honor of receiving 6 new computers over the summer, we are now going to be Superhero's of Tech as well! Information Literacy is a huge component of a stellar library education, whether this be in books or online. Students need the skills to find information, know if its the right information for their age, accuracy, up to date, and how to use that information ethically for amazing projects. We are going to learn a lot more technology skills from Microsoft programs such as Word and Publisher, to web safety, web skills, and more!
Join us Superheroes to learn some Tech skills this year in the library!
How to Earn Prizes in the Library this Year
1. Visit the Public Library
Start September 1st, if you check out books at the Sweet Branch Library, tell them you are an Ensign student, they will give you a special superhero cutout. Bring that cutout to me, and get a prize from the treasure chest!
If you check out books at other libraries, simply bring me the checkout receipt instead.
2. Enter the Book Give Away Contest
Every other week there will be books to give out! Students who like the book for their grade group will enter the drawing. The Drawing Entry must contain:
Room # or Teachers Name
Title of Book you want to win
I will announce winners and put out new books every other friday for the entire year! Only one entry per person per book! Must enter for a book in your grade level to win it.
Last year it was pigeon, who will it be this year? Watch the interview process to find out!
I always have great library assistants!! My first year it was The Shelf Elf, last year it was Pigeon from the Mo Willems books, and this year it will be......
I love this way to introduce the library to younger students. We quickly find out that my assistant is still learning just like they are. We tour the library to clean up after them, last year Pigeon made bird poop all over so we had to discover the layout of the library through cleaning up after Pigeon. (It was Tootsie Rolls). This year its going to be acorns. (That is as big of hint as I will let on!). Students will start pushing in chairs and cleaning up bits of trash just to keep my new assistant from being fired. My assistant usually hides somewhere in the library so students are eager to discover where they might be.

Last year we had a monthly contest, but it was too hard on me to decide whose project was the best! This year I am making it easy and fun with book giveaways. Every other week there will be books to give out! Students who like the book for their grade group will enter the drawing. I will announce winners and put out new books every other friday for the entire year! Only one entry per person per book! Must enter for a book in your grade level to win it.
