The Ensign Olympics were amazing! As a school we topped 300,000 minutes of reading and physical fitness over the course of the 2 week event! That is beyond amazing! Great job Ensign Athletes! Over the course of the Ensign Olympics we learned about all the qualities that make Olympians great through stories and videos of Olympians competed in Sochi, Russia. These are the same qualities that we have noticed in our Ensign Olympians. These are the qualities of friendship, teamwork, having a positive attitude, never giving up, encouraging and helping everyone, keeping an open mind, trying new things, hard work, and many more. Not only did student participate at home, but also during library time as we watched all the Team USA gold medalists, and in PE as they competed in various Olympic themed events.
The Grand Prize Team is Team Snow Leopard with 115,000 minutes of physical fitness and reading! They win Olympic Parties during Library Time this week and Gold Medals during PE! In second place was Team Polar Bear with 106,000, they win world key chains, and in 3rd place was Team Mountain Hare with 80,200 minutes! Everyone will get certificates of participation. Great Job Ensign Athletes!!

Our Ensign Athletes have been amazing! Team Leopard took an early lead, with Polar Bear following close behind. Then Team Polar Bear took the lead for a few days, but as you can see Team Leopard took back the lead for week 1. They have an astounding 84,546 minutes of at home reading and physical fitness!!! Better believe that they may well go over 100,000 minutes. There are 3 more days left of our event. Next week we will announce a ton of winners; individual, class, and team.
As you can see above there has been a noisy crazy rush every morning to turn in record slips and to see the very latest totals at our bar chart.
Below you can see how much we have been learning about the qualities of Olympians. Every day there is news blast with Ensign Olympic Updates and reminders, as well as an inspiring story about a Winter Olympic Athlete. We have learned about bravery, hard work, determination, team work, kindness, a positive attitude and more.
Below you can see a fun event that have been happening in PE, thanks to the creativity of Coach Bernadine! Its like ice skating!
The Ensign Olympics are going amazing! Just heading into day 4 and the Team scores are sky high! Coming into a quick lead was Team Snow Leopard, who have held onto that lead and now have a whopping total of 18,495 minutes! That counting reading time and physical fitness time outside of school hours as well as participation in Library Time and PE Time during school (As counted by myself and Coach Bernadine). Coming in a close second is Team Polar Bear!
In Library this week we watched parts of the opening ceremonies, both Team USA gold medal runs, and any other Olympic sports events per student request. My favorite video right now is a silly one:
This is Why Hoth was denied its Big to Host the Winter Olympics.

Everything is all set! The Ensign Olympics start this Monday February 10 and runs for fourteen days, ending on Sunday February 23. Parent letters went home today along with record slips for each of the fourteen days. Additional record slips are available in the library. Need a copy of the parent letter or want more info? Starting next week this will be a Bar Graph that will be updated daily with the team totals!
Team totals are based on at home reading and physical fitness, participation in library and PE, and various competitions in PE.
