In conjunction with this years winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia, Ensign Elementary is hosting its own Ensign Olympics.
Its a challenge for the Brain and the Body!
For this two week event, we have combined a read-a-thon with a fitness-a-thon. Students record time outside of school spent reading and engaging in physical activity. These totals count for individual incentives, but more importantly, count towards a team total.
The teams are based on the Olympic Mascots this year:
The Polar Bear, the Hare, and the Snow Leopard.
Teams also earn points based on: Participation in PE and Library, and various PE competitions.
In addition to a grand team prize, individual prizes will be awarded for reading and physical activity, and classroom prizes as well.
During Library time students will learn about the history of the games, this years venue in Sochi Russia, Olympic events, team USA, and various attributes of Olympians. Attributes of Teamwork, perseverance, personal best, self-motivation, and
hard work will be encouraged!
If you would like to follow along with the progress of the Ensign Olympics, there will be a large display in the front hallway by the library entrance, showing a progress bar chart.
More details to follow with a parent letter and reading charts, which go home on Friday February 7.
